Caprock Canyons Rock Formation

Today's post is a 2fer plus. Two different views of the same peak in Caprock Canyons State Park outside of Quitaque, Texas. The wider shot was taken about 50 to 75 feet above the dry creek bed where the tighter shot was taken. Both are more or less as-shot with some sharpening and exposure correction done in Raw. Which do you like best?
I've also included a shot of the "Welcome to Quitague (Kitty - Quay)" sign that I've noticed a lot since I was there. The sign is in the current issues of Texas Highways and Texas Monthly magazine. Seems to be a popular subject for reporters writing about North Texas or Caprock.

I prefer the portrait orientation. The visual elements fill the frame better there, where as in the horizontal shot the barren stream bed is not as interesting for a foreground to me. It looks HOT there!

Nice shots Larry!

I like the portrait version as well. The cacti in the foreground are much more interesting to me than the dry creek bed (although it is interesting that the creek bed has less pot holes in it than a lot of our streets here in Houston)!

Well done!

Without a doubt, I prefer the sign. I think it is really cool. Again, I think your treatment adds to the photograph. Good job.

I too prefer the portrait version of the Caprock shots. The vertical orientation just flows better when you look at it.

If you were also wanting to convey the hot, dry nature of the area, you captured it.
