Lime Lanterns Levitating

Another fisheye shot from downtown Houston taken early this past Saturday morning.

Monday, August 30, 2010

I have recently become the proud owner of an Olympus Zuiko Digital ED8mmF3.5 Fisheye lens. This Saturday morning my brother and I took a trip to downtown Houston in search of some elusive impact shots and it was my first opportunity to put the lens to a test. Luckily I was not disappointed! The lens is all I had hoped it would be and I believe it really gives me a new tool to enhance my photography.

Light Patterns

I thought this little chandelier and it's interesting shadow pattern on the wall made for an interesting light show.

You Looking at Me?

Also from Friday night's trip to the Kemah Boardwalk, I shot several frames of this juggler doing his thing and this was my favorite.

Travis The Pedal Cabbie

We made a quick trip down to the Kemah Boardwalk on Friday night to celebrate my step son's 30Th birthday. We had to park quite a ways out so we indulged in a couple of pedal cabs [3 wheeled 2 passenger trikes] for a ride up to the attractions. This was our driver Travis.

Cade's Cove Cabin

Another shot of one of the great historic building located on Cade's Cove Loop in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park in Tennessee. This was what I considered my "A" shot for last Tuesday's BAPC "Honors Night" assignment "Monotone". As it turned out my "B" shot, posted yesterday, turned out to be the judges pick!

Gatlinburg Dude

I took this shot last June while on vacation in Gatlinburg, TN. On this shot my wife and I were sitting on a curbside bench when this young man walked up and assumed this position across from us. He was preoccupied with something else in the area while I swung my camera around and took several shots of him. I shot from the hip so that it would not be obvious what I was doing and I think that decision paid off in his casual demeanor. I entered this shot in last nights BAPC Honors Night program under the assignment of "Monochrome" and was awarded a high Gold that tied for first place and "Photographer of the Month."

John Oliver's Cabin

This is the John Oliver Cabin preserved on Cades Cove Loop inside of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. It is a black and white conversion with a sepia monotone treatment originally shot on our Tennessee vacation in June of this year.

John Oliver’s Place. The Oliver’s settled into Cades Cove in 1826. This home remained in the Oliver family until the Park was established in the late 1920’s.

BNC Bird Shot

This shot is from the Bayt0wn Nature Center this weekend. I don't know if it's been by time of choice or some other factor but for the last month or so I just haven't had the photo ops that I normally do at the center, so I was glad to get to fire off a few shots on Sunday for a change.
