Presidential Busts

In honor of President's Day I decided to drive over to David Adicke's studio on the northeast side of downtown Houston to take some photo's. David Adicke is famous sculpting giant busts of US presidents. His studio, off of Summer St., is quite a surreal place. He reproduces fairly large numbers of the bust so the areas around his studio feature lots of heads staged for shipment.

There are several of these around town. I know one in particular is located next to Bass Pro Shops at Beltway 8 and 288, on the west feeder going south. My wife and I always seem to comment on them as we drive by, but I've never stopped. I have thought about how I would shoot them. Your version is different from what I envisioned. It has made me think about what I'll try to do, given the opportunity to do so.

I like the compressed nature of the shot. I'm not sure about the tree in front of your composition. I know it gives the photo depth and like that part of it. If it had been used to frame the shot maybe I would not be at odds over its use here.

Nice shot Larry! I like the composition with the inclusion of the tree. To me the tree provides a frame of reference for the scale of the statues and a contrast of natural and man-made elements.

Well done!
