Mantis One

This photo was taken Saturday in my backyard. My wife was planting a Crape myrtle when she spotted this juvenile Praying Mantis on the new shrub.

Nice shot Larry!

I like the composition a lot but it looks to me like your subject is slighly out of the focal plane. From looking at the leaf in the upper right hand corner it appears to me that the focal plane is slightly in front of the Mantis. You must have had a very narrow depth of field with your lens choice and camera settings?

Cheers!
Barry

Two words - extension tube! Forces you to trade exceptional focus on a plane about the thickness of a playing card for DOF. I may have to invest in a macro lense one of these days...
