Gold and High For the Night

"Pretty in Pink" was one of my entries in the Bay Area Photo Club's "Honors Night" competition under the assignment of "Birds of a Feather." I took the shot a couple of weeks ago at the Baytown Nature Center on Bayway Drive in Baytown, TX. The shot was taken with my Olympus E-3 and Olympus Zuiko 50-200 with a 1.4 teleconverter at F4.8, ISO640 [I was losing the evening light] and 1/20th handheld. The recorded focal length was 208MM and no flash was used. The judges scored the image at a high 198 points and it won Gold and "high for the night", making me the BAPC Photographer of the Month. It's weird but I've noticed that the judges always do better on nights when I do well - go figure! :)

Custom Cruzer

The driver of this "custom" Volkswagen stopped by my house on Saturday to shop at a garage sale we were holding. I had seen this fellow driving around town for a couple of weeks and was hoping to get a picture of it. Imagine my surprise when he pulled into my own driveway!

Pink Heals Tour

Friday the "Pink Heals Firetruck Tour" rolled into Baytown "...to support women in their fight against cancer and inspire men to get involved." There was a great crowd when I arrived about 30 minutes before the end of the event, and others I spoke with confirmed that the crowd was large all day long. Congratulations to the organizers of this tour, it's amazing to me how creative people can get when the cause is as inspiring as this one. More @ http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=23101466932

BNC Ospre_5

Taken this past weekend at the Baytown Nature Center, this Osprey posed for quite a while allowing plenty time for the photo op. My lens combo for this one was my Bigma 50-500 with a 1.4 tele-converter for a 35MM equivalent focal length of 1400MM.

Spoonbills at the BNC

Well, I know I promised something besides birds this week but one does have to present what one shoots... Rosate Spoonbills from the Baytown Nature Center this weekend.
