We drove down to Galveston a week ago hoping to catch some shots on the island as an approaching cold front passed through.  Our timing worked out pretty well as the rain broke just in time for the fast moving front to pass over us and I took this shot from the causeway gazebo.

FUTURE FIREFIGHTER KALE

We stopped by the Pink Heals firetruck tour when it was in Baytown the other day and took this picture of our grandson Kale.  I submitted it in last night's Bay Area Photo Club Honors Night Program under the November assignment of "People" and was give a gold award by the 3 judge panel.  The Pin Heals tour is a traveling group of pink firetrucks used to raise breast cancer awareness and raise funds for the effort to eliminate it.  Cancer survivors are invited to sign the trucks, which I think added to the applicability of the shot in the "People" assignment.  Learn more about "Pink Heals" at http://www.pinkfiretrucks.org/.

Here's another shot of an Osprey at the Baytown Nature Center on Sunday morning.  Calm winds and low water levels in the tidal pools pushed out but this weekends cold front made for an active morning for the birds.

I took this photo of a fire burning at Exxon in Baytown this evening.  I pulled off on the side of the Rollingbrook Drive overpass, with about 10 other cars, long enough to snap 3 shots before an amplified voice out of a police cruiser respectfully asked us to move on!

Mighty Mushroom Macro

I entered this scene in the Bay Area Photo Club Honors Night Program under the assignment topic of "Silence." The judges awarded it with a Gold award and enough points to make it the high scoring photo of the night in the category.

Fliping into the Colorado

One of the younger members of our group taking a flip off a low canyon wall at Pumpkin Springs catches the attention of a couple of rafts passing by.

The view walking up Deer Creek towards the falls at mile 136 of our Colorado River / Grand Canyon adventure.

Our guide pointed out that this peak near the end of our Grand Canyon rafting trip was equal in height to the river elevation at the start of our trip.

Small Riverbank Falls

Some small riverbank falls we drifted by on the Colorado River trip through the Grand Canyon.

This rock in the middle of the Colorado River dwarfs the 37' raft passing beside it.  The piece of driftwood on top of the rock was left there by a flood 40 or 50 years ago.

I believe our Grand Canyon tour guide said this old stone cabin was built by a prospector around 1910.  I'm not positive about it's history but I like the scene.

I submitted this image, of my wife on our Grand Canyon trip, for consideration for our Bay Area Photo Club's Honor's Night on Tuesday night.  The assignment was "Loud" which was defined as "Images that convey sound, volume or brashness."  I'd hoped the judges would see the same "brashness" in this photo that I did and apparently they did as the photo was given a "Gold" award.

This was one of our camp sites on our recent rafting trip.
