KALE

Here's a shot I took of Kale in my front yard a few weeks ago.  I used my 60MM F2.8 macro lens and on camera flash.

This shot was entered in last night's Bay Area Photo Club Honor's Night under the assignment of "One Light Portrait."  It was lit with a flash reflected from a white umbrella and received a Bronze award from the judges.

FUTURE FIREFIGHTER KALE

We stopped by the Pink Heals firetruck tour when it was in Baytown the other day and took this picture of our grandson Kale.  I submitted it in last night's Bay Area Photo Club Honors Night Program under the November assignment of "People" and was give a gold award by the 3 judge panel.  The Pin Heals tour is a traveling group of pink firetrucks used to raise breast cancer awareness and raise funds for the effort to eliminate it.  Cancer survivors are invited to sign the trucks, which I think added to the applicability of the shot in the "People" assignment.  Learn more about "Pink Heals" at http://www.pinkfiretrucks.org/.

New Addition to the Family

As of 12:18 this afternoon we have a new member to the family! Kale Garland Kelly, son of Kelly and Jamie King, came into the world at 7 lbs. 11 oz. and 20" long. I'm sure this will be the first of many photograph on this grandpa's web page.

Found Kitty

This kitty ended up under our tool shed back in May. After considerable coaxing my wife was able to lure it to her, and it didn't take too long to find it a home.

Restoration Work 2

This image wasn't in too bad of shape but the original [left] did have quite a few small blemishes and some fading. I sharpened the "restored" image on the right a little because I intended to print the image on matte paper which softened the image back towards the original.

Not everyone was taking pictures at Cade's Cove, this gentleman was capturing one of the scenes with paint. He must not have access to a camera! :)

FYI – These are football fans!!! I don’t think they minded so much that they were supporting opposing teams on this day. It’s pretty obvious these two strangers have more in common than who their favorite NFL team is.

Boy in the Crowd

This boy was in the stands at Reliant Stadium for last weeks Texan game one row down and two seats to the left of me. He kept turning around looking over his shoulder and over our heads at something going on in the stands behind us. He did this just often enough that had reason to assume he’d do it again. I laid my camera in my lap and folded out he articulated screen so that I could focus on him without looking directly at him and when he turned I snapped this shot. The problem was I had my 70-200 and 1.4 converter on my camera and wasn’t sure I could focus within the six foot max distant. I like the resulting shot. The long focal length really did a good job of separating him from the busy background of the crowd. It supports my theory that it’s better to be lucky than good!
