Gold and High For the Night

"Pretty in Pink" was one of my entries in the Bay Area Photo Club's "Honors Night" competition under the assignment of "Birds of a Feather." I took the shot a couple of weeks ago at the Baytown Nature Center on Bayway Drive in Baytown, TX. The shot was taken with my Olympus E-3 and Olympus Zuiko 50-200 with a 1.4 teleconverter at F4.8, ISO640 [I was losing the evening light] and 1/20th handheld. The recorded focal length was 208MM and no flash was used. The judges scored the image at a high 198 points and it won Gold and "high for the night", making me the BAPC Photographer of the Month. It's weird but I've noticed that the judges always do better on nights when I do well - go figure! :)

This is a gorgeous bird photograph! I thought this was Tim T's submission! The colors are so rich, the light is soft and glowing, the background dark but still has enough detail to give a sense of place and all those Spoonbills posed for you so nicely. I thought the judges scored this one right --- great shot!

By far my favorite bird photo of the night. Really good color combination and composition. My eye moves easily from one bird to the next and then back again. The photo looks very natural. Fine job.

I did not know that the Olympus E-3 was a full frame camera?

Larry, this is a great shot. Very easy and pleasing to view. Love the setting and colors. Congrats on your High Gold, well deserved!
