The lighter version allows one to see the detail in the shot more easily. Definitely a unique subject. I'm wondering if there is a better way to present it than just cropped out of the sky.
Have you figured out what made you shoot it, besides keeping with a theme?
This lighter version is much better. I see what Doug means by wondering if there could have been another way to shoot these hooks that would make them more connected to the environment instead of hanging out there in the air by themselves, but then I think the crop would be so much wider that you would not be able to see the interesting details...
Thanks Doug, Cindi, and Barry. Doug, I think one of the things that appealed to me about this shot was just that the subject is such and unlikely candidate for an interesting shot. Which is one of the reasons I like the plain background. I'm presenting the block and headache ball - and that's it!
I work in the industrial distribution sector as a salesman for a master distributor of valves and fittings in Houston, TX. I am a member of the Bay Area Photo Club which meets at the Art Alliance Center at Clear Lake in Clear Lake Texas on Tuesday nights. I shoot with an Olympus E-3 and my favorite lens in my Zuiko 12-60.

I think the shot is much improved by the changes you made. It is a lot more interesting to me now than the way it was before.
Well done!
Barry

Nuff said!
I like the additional details in this on--they seem to help separate the subject from the background better. I also like your soft background.
