I think the backlighting works better here than on the Spoonbill photos because the white feathers make the side away from the sun slightly brighter. So keep shooting white birds until you get your Better Beamer! :-)
I think the dark side of the bird could still use a little more lightening from the way it looks on my monitor, but I like his pose and the environment around him --- at least in the foreground. I might try cloning out or using the patch tool to remove the patches of land behind him at the top of the image. That would give you a cleaner background with just the blurry water for him to stand out more from.
